Sami Tamimi
The Steward
Legacy, values and the long now, leadership as care and continuity.
Sami Tamimi is The Steward by deliberate mission: preserving and transmitting Palestinian culinary culture before occupation and war erase it. He treats cookbooks not as commercial product but as living archive, documenting foraging traditions, farming memory, and generational knowledge he fears will otherwise vanish. His leadership is custodial in the truest sense, tending what exists, bearing witness to it, and passing it forward so that a threatened inheritance survives in usable, living form.
“I worry that one day they're going to get lost. So I documented them in a cookbook, which I think it's wonderful when kids by seeing kids want to one day kind of read about it.”
“Food for me is a tool. I can connect with people through food and you can say quite a lot through recipes and cookbooks — people are willing to sit and read about it.”
“I have my memories. My family's still there. They've been there for hundreds of years. And you can't take that from me.”
