OTA LEADERSHIP INDEX

Myles Turner

ARCHETYPE

The Guardian

What holds, and what fails, under pressure, standards and accountability.

Myles Turner reads as The Guardian because his leadership is custodial before it is anything else. Nine seasons in Indiana, a smaller market with less recognition, become stewardship rather than sacrifice in his telling. He protects his father's investment, his sister's opportunity, his own craft, and a franchise identity that needed someone willing to stay. Even his disciplines away from the court, Legos and yoga, follow the same quiet instinct to sustain what matters.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY GUARDIAN

I know what I bring to the table. I know these GMs know what I bring to the table. I know my team knows what I bring to the table. So I know I add value wherever I'm at. I'm an asset wherever I go.

ON DEFENSIVE RECOGNITION AND SELF-WORTH

There's nothing I can say or do to repay for what he's instilled in me. You can make sure your parents good with a house or whatnot, but it's never going to repay for what he did — the time. You can never get time back.

ON HIS FATHER'S SACRIFICE AND MENTORSHIP

I had to find a hobby. I'm not going out to no bars or nothing like that. I needed a new hobby outside just playing video games all night. That was my escape — I had a bad game, go on there and just put it all into the Legos.
