OTA LEADERSHIP INDEX

Montrezl Harrell

ARCHETYPE

The Operator

Execution, delivery and performance, gets the hard thing done.

Montrezl Harrell reads as The Operator because every answer routes back to process rather than narrative. He requested G League assignments when others might have resented them, kept year-round regimens running through Dyckman, the Drew, and Atlanta pickup circuits, and framed his Clippers breakthrough as proof of the little things, charges taken, dives made, rims run. Recognition, in his telling, is simply a byproduct of execution done relentlessly and done right.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY OPERATOR

I spent a lot of my time going to play in the G League. I used to ask the coach, the staff, the scouts — hey man, can I go to G League? I want to play, man.

ON SEEKING REPS OVER COMFORT

In the summer I don't take vacations. I literally go a week to two weeks without touching the ball, then I'm right back at it Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday doing my workouts.

ON YEAR-ROUND PREPARATION DISCIPLINE

Taking charges, blocking shots, muscleing players, loose balls, diving into the crowd — that's all the things I do in my game because it's winning basketball. It's just what I'm accustomed to.
