OTA LEADERSHIP INDEX

Mary Barra

ARCHETYPE

The Navigator

Judgement in the fog, money, risk and the call others cannot make.

Mary Barra leads as The Navigator, steering General Motors through crosscurrents of technology, regulation, and competition with methodical pragmatism. She frames the EV transition as a multi-route journey rather than a binary bet, accepting that the climb from seven to one hundred percent electrification will pass through hybrid waypoints and demand flexible manufacturing capacity. Her optimism is always anchored in operational specifics, a leader who charts the course by reading conditions, not by wishing them away.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY NAVIGATOR

Although it's slowing, if we were to grow from seven to ten percent, that would still be significant and a record year for evs, and to participate in that this year, we're well positioned with a portfolio of purpose built evs.

ON EV ADOPTION SLOWDOWN

We have flexibility with two plants that can build both ICE and EV, so if for some reason we don't see that EV demand materialize, we've got the flexibility.

ON MANUFACTURING OPTIONALITY

You do need a level playing field, and I believe with our portfolio in many of the markets we compete around the globe, if there's truly a level playing field, we have a strong portfolio and we're going to do well.
