OTA LEADERSHIP INDEX

June Ambrose

ARCHETYPE

The Catalyst

Ideas with a spark, energy, range and the ability to start things.

June Ambrose is The Catalyst because ignition is her craft. She built hip hop's visual identity, pushed Missy Elliott into the first female artist Adidas collaboration, and launched women's basketball at Puma before it was culturally viable. Style, in her hands, is psychological unlocking rather than service, and she says so plainly, framing her role as making people uncomfortable and making them feel something. She leads by provoking transformation in others.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY CATALYST

My job is to forecast, is to insist that you feel something in the experience of transforming, evolving. What we're doing is something very transformative.

ON HER PHILOSOPHY AS A STYLIST

The prerequisite was if you want to play this game, you have to play it with us. You have to partner, and we made it a thing.

ON PIONEERING BRAND COLLABORATIONS IN HIP HOP

I think the best work is done when you know you can't tell someone did it, someone else did it for them. That to me is at the heart of what a good collaborator is.

ON HER COLLABORATIVE CREATIVE APPROACH
