Jordan Hawkins
The Pioneer
The frontier and an appetite for the unknown, goes first.
Jordan Hawkins is The Pioneer, a first-mover carving ground where few have gone before him. The UConn national champion frames his rise explicitly as blazing a trail out of Montgomery County, Maryland, noting that not a lot of guys come out of Moco, and he set himself the mission of being the best from his area. Even his calm pre-draft posture, just trying to hoop, treating it all as a new challenge, points forward rather than back.
“I'm from the Moco area, so not a lot of guys come out of Moco. I want to be the best guy to come from my area. I think I'm one of the best people that ever come through there.”
“It really made me lock in on basketball. My first time on campus was my first time moving in — I was just driving by and I've seen straight trees. This ain't DC no more.”
“I just can't wait for the commissioner to call my name. I'm just trying to hoop, bro. This is just a new challenge for me.”
