Jon Taffer
The Operator
Execution, delivery and performance, gets the hard thing done.
Jon Taffer operates, in the strictest sense of The Operator. The Bar Rescue creator and hospitality consultant reduces marketing to three non-negotiable buckets and insists behavioural change precede any physical overhaul. His maxim that every failing business has a failing owner is not motivational theatre but diagnostic rigour, treating mindset as an operational variable to be tuned with the same precision he applies to inventory or labour cost.
“The only way I could fix the failing business is to fix the failing owner. Every failing business has a failing owner. I can build him the Taj Mahal and he'd still fail there.”
“I don't want to change what you do. I want to change the way you think. If I can change the way you think, I can't help but change what you do.”
“Marketing is only three things: new customer programs, frequency programs, and spend programs. Most hospitality operators don't cut marketing into those three things. They just spend the money generically.”
