Jennifer Thomas
The Diplomat
People, composure and the difficult conversation held well.
Jennifer Thomas is Global Head of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the London Stock Exchange Group, where she leads inclusion strategy across one of the world's most consequential pieces of financial markets infrastructure. She brings more than 25 years spanning communications, culture and inclusion, and before her current mandate she led communications across the group's Data and Analytics division. Her operating thesis is that culture is not an adjunct to strategy but the nucleus through which strategy is actually delivered. Her craft is influence at scale. She works with the C suite and cascades messaging through a workforce of more than 26,000 people, and she is emphatic that communication should feel two way rather than pushed down. She frames her own role as an enabler and subject matter expert rather than the final decision maker, arguing that inclusion changes an organisation only when business leaders, not HR or EDI teams alone, own and drive the agenda through the decisions they already control. A former England international athlete who now holds board roles at sports organisations, Thomas draws her leadership instincts directly from elite sport: resilience, the discipline of working methodically through a problem, and a coaching style built around understanding people as individuals. She talks about the unlock, the exponential effort a team gives when it feels psychologically safe, and positions crisis planning, governance and value based decision frameworks as the guardrails that let large organisations act under pressure without losing themselves.
