Heather Brilliant

ARCHETYPE

The Architect

Structured and legacy-driven; builds the systems and institutions that last.

Heather Brilliant is The Architect because she has built Diamond Hill around structural constraints most asset management CEOs would treat as competitive disadvantages. Capping AUM at capacity limits, requiring portfolio managers to co-invest alongside clients, and insulating long-term decisions from quarterly earnings pressure are not mere policies. They function as load-bearing elements of a governance model engineered to outlast any market cycle. Brilliant treats constraint itself as the material from which durable institutions are made.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY ARCHITECT

If we're invested alongside our clients, we're making decisions for them that will be in our best interest and their best interests. It creates alignment to have our portfolio managers meaningfully owning shares of the funds they manage.

EXPLAINING MANAGER CO-INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY

The client experience is more important than our ability to generate more revenue by bringing on more assets. We think we can manage about two, two and a half billion in small cap and when we get there, we're not taking new clients.

ON CAPACITY DISCIPLINE AND CLIENT PRIORITY

We don't want to on a quarterly basis be essentially pressured into focus on a shorter time period. We hold a shareholder meeting once a year where we take a step back and review our expectations going forward.
