OTA LEADERSHIP INDEX

Ed Hyman

ARCHETYPE

The Navigator

Judgement in the fog, money, risk and the call others cannot make.

Ed Hyman reads as The Navigator because he refuses to let data arrive unfiltered, demanding a theoretical framework before any number earns his attention. That discipline converts noise into signal. Across 13 Fed cycles he has treated recurring patterns like currents, triangulating live market movements against an internal model he stress-tests continuously. He does not react to markets, he charts them, steering through uncertainty with a map of his own making.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY NAVIGATOR

I always would like to have a pretty strong theoretical or intellectual framework that I'm operating within and then see how things fit into that. I try and have a framework, so I'm not just reporting the latest data point.

ON FORECASTING METHODOLOGY AND FRAMEWORK

I've been through thirteen Fed tightening cycles, and every single one has had a financial shock or crisis. I would be surprised if we don't have another one. It's part of the tightening cycle.

ON HISTORICAL PATTERNS IN FED CYCLES

I look at the markets all the time. I'm a junkie, probably look at the markets three or four times an hour. I let it sink in — does that fit with the picture I have in my head about what should be happening?
