Cuttino Mobley
The Navigator
Judgement in the fog, money, risk and the call others cannot make.
Cuttino Mobley qualifies as a Navigator because his ascent was reverse-engineered under uncertainty. A late basketball starter, he studied Kobe's footwork, humbled himself beside Steve Francis, and absorbed mentorship from Pippen and Rudy T with deliberate intent. His own recurring theme, that he did not know where he was going but kept adjusting, is the archetype stated plainly. Mobley found the route without a pre-drawn map, correcting course at every turn.
“I do well under pressure, and I think fighting my way up kept my edge going. In the back of your mind, you're like, I don't want to fail, so I'm gonna go hard.”
“It started with me humbling myself and knowing that, yo, that's the franchise, not you. Then when I started to show Steve my skill set, he respected it more and we went back and forth.”
“Put your purpose before your ego, especially when it involves someone else — that's what I've learned. Your purpose becomes before your ego.”
