Coi Leray
The Pioneer
The frontier and an appetite for the unknown, goes first.
Coi Leray reads as The Pioneer because her path is entirely self-authored. She left high school at 15, was cold-calling as an under-the-table telemarketer at 16 earning $1,300 a week, and built an independent lane in rap while absorbing relentless public scrutiny. She does not follow existing blueprints so much as write new ones under pressure, propelled by an almost ungovernable ambition to become an icon rather than to fit an established mold.
“After we done got evicted and went through our whole situation, it's like reality is kicking in, like maybe it's life or death. You're going to have to separate from the pack a little bit to survive.”
“I always been confident, but until I got famous and the internet became — that's when I, for once, questioned who the fuck I was and what I was doing. Are you really good enough?”
“I'm like, ninety percent of the users in the world are using iPhones. They're trying to get to your business. I was knocking them crazy. I was taking at least thirteen hundred every Friday.”
